:- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Sarah T -- Not as traumatizing as the movie Return to Oz, but this is a close second. : As a child of the ‘80s, my exposure to the world of Oz was through the Wizard of Oz movie, where I was traumatized by the witch and the flying monkeys. I was equally traumatized by the 1985 movie Return to Oz, which I was somehow allowed to watch at the very young age of 6 or 7 years old. When I decided to read the Oz books, I had no idea that books two (The World of Oz) and three (this one, Ozma of Oz) were the basis for that horror film that was marketed as a kids’ movie. As my relationship with the movie and this book are intertwined, there will be some MILD SPOILERS for both Ozma of Oz (book) and Return to Oz (movie). An example: when explaining that sun couldn't get through the clouds it read as "the sun couldn't via the clouds" That one was fairly easy to decifer, but there are whole sentences that are impossible to understand. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from StrangePegs -- Better and Better : Because The Woggle-Bug Book, is not included as one of the Oz books, Ozma of Oz is considered the third book in the series. Despite the fact that the book is not really about Ozma (introduced in The Marvelous Land of Oz), it gets her name. She doesn't even show up until more than 1/3 into it and hardly takes center-stage after that. The title, though, is probably the greatest weakness of the book. So far, I'm enjoying each of these more than the previous one. Being only three books in, though, that's not saying much. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2014 )

Unfortunately, the various collections out there are badly formatted (hence the bargain price) and do not contain any of the original illustrations by John R. Neill. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from BookLover -- Really enjoyable : I decided to try and read all of the original Oz books in order and have just finished this (book three). It was a really good read. They genuinely have got better from book to book so far. It is really interesting to see how the stories grow from each other and get more in depth. The second book was noticeably darker than the first one and this one feels more like it had a stronger plot than going from one small adventure to another. I've heard that perhaps because of the author's life, the last few books get darker and I am very interested to see how they progress. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 11, 2014 )
